Sara Moulton Visits Pastoral
I adore Sara Moulton. I think she's smart, skilled, personable and fun. As Executive Chef of Gourmet Magazine and host of "Sara's Secrets" on the Food Network, she's a culinary talent worth meeting. And now Chicago residents have the chance if they drop by Pastoral tomorrow night for an evening with Sara Moulton.
Sara will be at Pastoral signing her new book "Sara's Secrets for Weeknight Meals" from 5pm to 7pm on Friday, December 9, 2005. The event is free and open to the public. Additionally, a few sample recipes from her book and Pastoral's assortment of artisan cheeses and charcuterie will be available for tasting.
Pastoral is a lovely shop and this evening should be fun. Details below and enjoy if you go!

I live a block and half east of Pastoral and of course visit it often. It is fromage paradise. Hope there is a good turn out this evening, even with the 6 inch snow!
Enjoyed your notes about Antoine's. We spent our 1968 honeymoon in New Orleans and returned many times. Lucky us. It has changed much over the years the last time we were there in 2001; we did not like what we were seeing it changing into: a convention and "tourist" destination. It was not the same and now certainly can not be what it is. I hope they do not hasten its Disneyizing, like many other tourist destinations think is a "solution." Enough of my "rant."
One time we rode down the Mississippi in a Pusher Boat of 20 barges. Now that was hearty grub! On that trip we had to tie off for 3 or 4 days because of hurricane. When we finally arrived in the Big Easy we were met by tug boats captained by Cajuns. And to get off the Pusher Boat and onto land we had to get onto one of these "working" tugs. Not too clean! And the sing song language, including cursing in Cajun. Wouldn't give up those memories for anything. Don't know why I'm writing about this, but I guess it does fit into the "life style" category!

Sara Moulton is so much different than I imagined based on her being editor of Gourmet, and I really like her approach to cooking... approachable gourmet!
I've recently just run into your blog, "At Our Table", while searching for this Swiss town that one of my friends mentioned was located in Illinois (never did find it). However, when I Googled Illinois locations, your site was one of the results, and there, you mentioned New Glarus in Wisconsin.
I've made plans to go there sometime next week!
